BBCがポッドキャスティングでの番組配信を拡大

イギリスではじめてポッドキャスティングでの番組配信を開始していたBBC（英国放送協会）が、新たに20以上のラジオ番組をポッドキャスティングで配信することを発表した。

・BBC：「ポッドキャスティング」での番組配信を拡大（毎日インタラクティブ）
・英BBC、「ポッドキャスティング」の番組配信を拡大（Wired News）
・BBCのプレスリリース（英語）

配信される番組は毎朝8時10分から放送されているニュース番組「Today」や、経済番組「In Business」（毎週配信）、その週のスポーツの主要ニュースを伝える「Sportsweek」（毎週配信）など、かなり充実したラインナップ。
配信される番組には、著作権的な問題がある音楽番組は含まれない。

試験的に配信していた3つの番組のポッドキャスティングは、4ヶ月間で計27万回のダウンロードがあったとのこと。

BBCがポッドキャスティングに積極的に取り組む理由のひとつに、国が運営する公共放送という特殊性があるからだと思う。
公共放送の目的は、受信料に見合う良質な番組を多くのひとに提供すること。ラジオを聞く機会を広げるために、ポッドキャスティングほど便利な技術はない。

ちなみにBBCは日本のNHKと位置づけは似ていますが、大きく違う点として受信料についての考え方がある。
NHKの受信料支払いを拒否しても罰則規定がないのに対し、BBCは受信料を支払い者に懲役または罰金刑を課すことができるほど強制力がある。

NHKも英語講座などの良質なラジオコンテンツを、ぜひポッドキャスティングで配信してくれないかな・・・。

朝早くでおきれなくて、いつも挫折するNHKの英語講座。これこそポッドキャスティングのキラーコンテンツになりそうですよね。
