アメリカでのPodcastingの成長性
アメリカ「FeedBuner」というサービスでは、RSSをPodcasting（ポッドキャスティング）用に変換を行う「SmartCast」という機能がある（参考「「FeedBurner」で簡単にポッドキャスティングを始める」）。
FeedBunerの公式ブログ「Burning Questions」の最新記事で、Podcastingのマーケットの成長性を知るうえで、貴重なデータが公開されている。
その内容を要約すると、2004年の10月にSmartCastのサービスを開始して以来、SmartCastで配信されるポッドキャストの数は、2004年末で750、そして2005年2月7日の時点で1746にまで増えている。
1ヶ月で数は倍にになるスピードで、その伸びがだんだんと急になっている。
それに対してリスナーの数については、FeedBurnerが1月初めにSmartCastで提供するポッドキャスティングに対して13,500人のリスナーが、そして2月の初めには24,000人にまで成長した。リスナーの数も1ヶ月で倍になるスピードだ。
ここからわかるのは、1つのポッドキャストに約14-15人のリスナーがいるということになる。
そして記事の最後では、SmartCast機能のエンハンスを予定しているという言葉で締めくくられている。
これほどのスピードで成長しているのには正直驚きました。
この勢いなら、アメリカでポッドキャスティングが多くの利用者を獲得してサービスとして当たり前のように認知されるまで、そう時間はかからなそうですね。
